Genetically engineered universal nucleases are a class of enzymes that can cut phosphodiester bonds in DNA or RNA molecules. The cutting of these enzymes does not depend on a specific nucleotide sequence, but can cut at any position of the molecular chain. It can degrade all forms of DNA and RNA, including single-stranded, double-stranded, linear, circular, natural and denatured nucleic acids. This makes them important in applications that require extensive degradation or cutting of nucleic acid chains, such as genomics research, RNA degradation, sample preparation, and certain types of nucleic acid modification experiments.
