The global 905 and 1550 nm Automotive Lidar Lasers market size is predicted to grow from US$ 2102 million in 2025 to US$ 4475 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 11.6% from 2026 to 2032.

905nm and 1550nm automotive LiDAR lasers are the two core light source technologies in the field of autonomous driving. 905nm uses silicon-based materials (such as edge-emitting lasers (EELs) or vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs), which are low-cost and small in size, making them suitable for passenger car scenarios. However, due to human eye safety restrictions (maximum power detection distance of approximately 150 meters), the emission power needs to be controlled; 1550nm uses indium gallium arsenide (InGaAs) materials, and its wavelength is far away from the visible light band, which is safer for the human eye and has stronger penetration. It can achieve long-range detection of more than 300 meters and is suitable for commercial vehicles and complex environments, but it is expensive and needs to solve heat dissipation and packaging problems. Both construct environmental models by emitting lasers and receiving reflected signals, and combine scanning technologies (such as rotating mirrors and solid-state solutions) to improve perception accuracy. 905nm dominates the current market due to its mature process and low cost, while 1550nm is considered a future trend due to its longer detection distance.
905 nm solution will continue to dominate the passenger car front-end market with approximately USD 1.2 billion and over 60% share. The mature silicon-based VCSEL/edge-emitting laser supply chain will reduce the average unit price to below USD 150. The 1550 nm solution has a scale of approximately USD 700 million and accounts for 30%, mainly supplying Robotaxi and high-end L3+ models. Due to the need for InGaAs detectors and high-power fiber lasers, the unit price is still as high as over USD 300. Downstream customers include OEMs such as Hesai, Sagitar, Huawei, Innovusion, and Luminar, as well as vehicle and operation platforms such as Mercedes-Benz, Weilai, and Xiaopeng. It is expected that from 2025 to 2027, the 905 nm solution will continue to increase in volume and test the 150,000-200,000 yuan models, while the 1550 nm solution will continue to increase in volume and test the 150,000-200,000 yuan models. As FMCW and pure solid-state solutions mature and their cost curves decline steeply, the penetration rate of nm will increase from 30% in 2024 to 45%. The price gap between the two is expected to narrow to less than 1.5 times in 2027.
