Depending on the system design, cooling may be delivered through high-pressure low-temperature carbon dioxide, electrically refrigerated cold air, liquid-nitrogen vapor, or another controlled localized cooling technology. The device lowers the temperature of the skin and superficial tissues within a relatively short period, producing analgesic and anti-swelling effects through mechanisms such as reduced sensory nerve conduction, modulation of local vascular responses, and decreased tissue metabolic activity. Its principal applications include rehabilitation medicine, orthopedics, pain management, sports medicine, and selected peri-procedural cooling applications. Approved indications vary between products and markets. This product category excludes whole-body cryotherapy chambers, conventional ice packs, circulating cold-compression systems, cryoablation or cryosurgical equipment, and cryolipolysis systems.
The Low Temperature Impact Analgesiometer market is evolving from stand-alone cooling units toward more precise, intelligent, and diversified localized cryotherapy platforms. Carbon dioxide jet systems remain widely used in China and parts of Asia because they provide rapid cooling and can be incorporated into relatively compact equipment.
